About the Image
It was a dream experience to spend the night of my 48th birthday photographing the mythical Moai statues of Easter Island under the light of a full moon. The Rapa Nui people built the statues to honor the lineages of their tribes. Because the scene was only lit by the moon I was able to take 5 minute long exposures, allowing the clouds to stream overhead. I positioned my camera in the shadow of one of the tallest statues. Toward the end of my exposure the moon came around the edge and created the moon-star pattern.
