Nickel Creek lies along the northern coastal section of Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park. The park, established in 1927 is 6,400 acres with approximately 50% old-growth coast redwood and 8 miles of wild coastline. Here along the coastal lowlands, redwoods give way to ferns, maples, and mosses. Light filtering through a layer of mist and the green canopy of this alder forest gives it a soft, mysterious feel.
