In this image I am standing at high camp on the West Buttress during my 2005 ascent of Denali or Mt. McKinley in Alaska. Looking 3,000 feet below me at the 14,000 foot Camp V, the tents look like mere specks of dirt on the snowy field. Denali is the highest peak in North America and one of the most dangerous to climb in the world because of extreme weather and high latitude. The gathering clouds in the distance can mean trouble ahead for climbers in this frozen landscape.
