Corn Lilies (Veratrum s.) with their strong, vibrant green leaves glow in reflected evening light at Howard Prairie in Southern Oregon. The Corn Lily, sometimes called False Hellebore, is found in subalpine meadows and wetlands. The corn-like plant sends out summer stalks that range from 3 to 6 feet tall ending in white flower spikes.
