This photo of Corn Lilies (Veratrum s.) is a tangle of strong, vibrant green leaves recently washed in spring rain giving them a diamond studded appearance. I found these on the slopes of Mt. Rainier in Washington. The Corn Lily, sometimes called False Hellebore, is found in subalpine meadows and wetlands. The corn-like plant sends out summer stalks that range from 3 to 6 feet tall ending in white flower spikes.
