A late winter day of misty air imparts a lonely quality to this grove of trees in the Cosumnes River Wildlife Preserve, California. The Consumnes River, in the Central Valley and only 80 miles long, has frequent winter and spring overflows which foster the growth of native plants and wildlife. Hundreds of species of birds and plants are found in the preserve which encompasses and protects thousands of acres of wetlands and woods.
