Climbers regroup at the “football field” at 19,500 feet before taking on the final ridge to the summit of Denali, or Mt. McKinley, in Alaska. The photo was taken when I made my second ascent of the West Buttress Route in 2005. Denali is the highest peak in North America. Popular with climbers from around the world, it is known for its extreme weather conditions and dangers from altitude related illnesses.
