On our second ascent of Denali in 2005 my climbing partner looks up at the 13,000 foot south face from a base camp on the Kahiltna Glacier. Bright tents and climbing gear are the only splashes of color in this snowy white world. Denali, or Mt. McKinley, is the highest peak in North America at over 20,000 feet. Known for its extreme weather conditions and high risk of altitude sickness, because of its height in relation to its latitude, it lures mountain climbers from around the world.
