Standing on the Shoulder of a Giant Stock Image, Redwood Forest, California

Standing on the Shoulder of a Giant Stock Image, Redwood Forest, California

This young redwood is getting a leg up on his competition. Growing out of the top of the trunk of an old dead tree allows it to reach valuable sunlight filtering through the canopy. Lucky for now, but I think its days are limited. As it continues to grow and the trunk continues to decay it will eventually all come crashing down.
