Oregon is a beautiful state and outdoor photography opportunities are plentiful throughout the region. However, with low profile scenic areas, only one national park and very remote areas, knowing where to go to find great landscape and nature photography locations can be difficult and take years of research, exploration and word of mouth. Until now, no single guide book specific to photography existed.
In his new book, Photographing Oregon, A Guide to the Natural Landmarks of Oregon, author and photographer, Greg Vaughn, puts his years of exploring the state, making painstaking notes and artfully photographing it’s wonders all down on paper to the benefit of the rest of us. The book is beautiful and the writing is excellent. Greg didn’t hold back, including clear directions, location ratings, local knowledge and tips on where to be and when. For the outdoor photographer, this book is an invaluable resource that contains knowledge that would take years of constant road trips to compile on your own. Even for the casual photographer or just someone who wants to visit the state’s most scenic landscapes and hikes, this book is a gold mine.
I’m proud to say that the southern Oregon chapter contains a couple of my photos, and a selection of some of Oregon’s other top photographers can be found here as well. However, 90% of the photos were taken by Greg, showing what a dedicated and talented photographer he is and what an amazing job he has done of photographing the state.
